How to Operate Casement Windows
Unlocking: Use the key provided to unlock the handle of your casement window.
Opening: Once unlocked, push the button on the handle, rotate it 90° horizontally for side-hung or vertically for top-hung. You can then push open the window.
Night Ventilation: To keep your home ventilated during the night, open the window approximately 2cm. Turn the handle to apply the locking device. This will lock the window in a slightly open position. However, be aware that in this position, the window isn’t as secure as when fully locked.
How to Use Tilt and Turn Windows
Tilt Only Mode:
Unlock the handle using the key
Press the button on the handle and turn it to the horizontal position
Now, you can tilt open the window for ventilation. The window won’t open fully in this mode, ensuring safety
Turn Only Mode:
Unlock the handle
Press the button and rotate the handle 180° vertically
The window can now be fully opened
How to Clean and Maintain Your Windows and Doors
Glass Cleaning: Use warm soapy water and a soft cloth or squeegee. If windows are very dirty, consider using a mild detergent or window cleaner. If your window has leading, bevels, or colour overlays, pay extra attention to edges or corners.
uPVC Frame Cleaning: Wash frames with mild soap and warm water. For stubborn stains, consider using a cream non-abrasive proprietary cleaner.
Metal Finishes: Clean metal letterboxes, handles, catches, and door knockers with a damp cloth or mild detergent. Avoid using metal cleaners or polish.
How to Secure Your Windows and Doors
Windows: Ensure all windows are closed when you leave the house. Many of our windows self-lock when closed, but using a key will offer additional security.
Doors: To engage all door locking points, fully lift the handle. If you go away, don’t leave windows in the night ventilation position.
Additional Safety Tips: Consider investing in burglar alarms, exterior sensor lights, and timers. Ensure you have adequate home insurance and always double-check windows and doors are securely locked before going to bed or leaving the house.
How to Combat Condensation
Understanding Causes: Condensation results from moisture in the atmosphere, steam from bathrooms, and cooking, as well as temperature differences on surfaces.
Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation in your home, especially in areas prone to moisture like bathrooms and kitchens.
Using Double Glazing: Installing double-glazed units from GJB New Build can help reduce condensation issues.
How to Use the Entry Guard Feature on Doors
Engaging the Guard: From the inside with the door closed, turn the knob fitted to the door frame to the horizontal position.
Disengaging the Guard: Turn the knob to the vertical position.
